PRE-KINDERGARTEN Overview
Pre-Kindergarten is the beginning of your child’s school career. Your child will develop an understanding of what it takes to be a part of a school family by developing listening and cooperation skills, the love of learning and the ability to function in a school setting.
Jesus Time introduces your child to a variety of Bible stories and songs, with a focus on learning Jesus’ love for all through His death and resurrection. Your child will also participate in all-school chapel (three year olds to grade eight) on Wednesdays and a special chapel service for children ages one to five on Thursdays.
In Language arts the curriculum revolves around a study of each letter of the alphabet, its sound, formation, and themes connected to each letter. Your child will participate in learning center activities that focus on Drama, Art, Fine Motor Skills, Math, Science, Jesus Time and Language Development in a wide variety of hands-on fun. The scope and sequence is developed through the use of Open Court Reading and Zaner Bloser Handwriting.
Your child will be introduced to the world of mathematics through cooperative games, Smart board technology activities, movement, touch-and-explore centers, and an interactive math wall.
Further development of your child’s awareness of God’s Creation is instilled through exploration of the world, facilitated in experiments, group study, and interaction with gooey, messy things. It will come as no surprise to parents of young children that Science and Social Studies involve some of our favorite activities.
Academics is not the only focus in Pre-Kindergarten. Your child will also participate in enrichment activities, including Spanish, Technology, Music, Physical Education, Sign Language and field trips. Parent participation in our learning is always welcomed and encouraged.
