Path to Admissions

We’re so glad you’re exploring Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran School — a Christ-centered private school in San Antonio serving children from 6 weeks through 8th grade. Our goal is to make your admissions journey simple, personal, and transparent.

  1. Touring & Program Overview:

  • There’s no better way to get to know Shepherd than to see it in action. During your visit, you’ll meet teachers, explore classrooms, and discover how our faith-filled community helps children experience Christ, community and excellence in all that they do!

  • Click Schedule A Visit (above) to complete a short form — our Admissions Team will follow up to arrange the best option for your family.

  • We offer personal 1-on-1 tours, small group tours, and info sessions, plus limited virtual options.

  • Visits typically last 45–60 minutes and include time for questions.

    When Should We Apply?

    Choosing the right school is an exciting — and sometimes overwhelming — process in San Antonio. With so many great options (private, public, charter, and Christian), timelines can feel confusing. At Shepherd, we keep things simple and personal.

    Most families begin the admissions process November through February for the following school year, which provides the widest availability for grade-level openings. However, Shepherd also accepts applications year-round as space allows.

    2. Application Processing:

  • When you’re ready, start your Application through our secure GRADELINK portal.

  • Create your Admissions Parent Account in GRADELINK.

  • Complete a New Student Application for your child.

  • Submit the $55 nonrefundable fee.

  • Upload required Application documents (e.g. current report card, Teacher & Principal name/email for recommendation, standardized test and special accommodation paperwork). Please note, student's Birth Certificate will be required prior to Enrollment.

  • Our Admissions Team will review your application and follow up with next steps.

    3.Shadow Day and In-House Assessment: 

    For applicants entering Grades 2–8, we invite students for a Shadow Day and brief academic assessment.

    Shadow Day: Your child spends a day experiencing Shepherd’s classrooms and community.

    Assessment: We use in-house academic checks to understand each child’s strengths and readiness.

    These experiences help both families and teachers ensure Shepherd is the right fit.

    4. Acceptance & Enrollment Confirmation:

  • Once your child is accepted:

    You’ll receive an Acceptance Email from our Admissions Team.

    In early February, your Early Acceptance Offer and Enrollment Package will be emailed to you.

    Pay the Enrollment Fee and New Student Fee to secure your child’s spot.

    Enrollment remains open year-round as space allows.

    Returning families enjoy early enrollment beginning 2 weeks before open enrollment for new applicants

THE NEW STUDENT AND ENROLLMENT FEES ARE NON-REFUNDABLE UNLESS ADMISSION IS DENIED BY SHEPHERD OF THE HILLS.
